Message of H.E. Ambassador Kerem Alp on the occasion of Victory Day
We proudly commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Sakarya Battle that put an end to the advance of occupying powers in Anatolia in August 1921 and the 99th anniversary of the final victory over them in 1922.
Under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal, the War of Independence ended with a decisive victoryinDumlupınar on August 30, 1922 and the Turkish Nation proved that they would not give up on living in freedom and independence. This victory was unforgettable success against those who wantedto erase our nation the stage of history.
This victory and the subsequent birth of the modern Republic of Turkey set an example for nations ruled by foreign powers to fight for their independence.
On this occasion, I congratulate the August 30 Victory Day of all our citizens and members of the Turkish Armed Forces.
Today we commemorate all our martyrs and veterans, especially the founder of our Republic Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with eternal gratitude.
